Radio is all about intimacy and words (Balsebre, 1994). Since radio’s significant shift from verbal to musical content, songs have been able create a special bond between broadcasters audiences across the world. Nevertheless, selecting far being an innocent choice; it part of cultural framework (Ala-Fossi, 2005; Gjerdingen & Perrott 2008). Recently, scholars explained alliances with music industry adaptation audiences’ preferences (Kaplan, 2013; Uimonen, 2017), thus arguing that in radios’ playlists diverse, especially on stations owned by private sector. This article draws upon premise more comprehensive approach towards this topic needed. Inspired previous studies commercial radio policies (Uimonen, 2011; Hellman Vikko 2019), research makes use methodological tool characterize diversity two most popular Portuguese broadcasters. After weeks observation, March 2020, authors analysed 2366 song entries, concluding general for seem be similar: typical predominance international singers/bands, male artists English-spoken songs, including overwhelming presence worldwide labels associated majority songs. However, these national broadcasting their own set artists, when comes singers/bands. Future should aim at analysing artists’ broadcasters’ views framework, as way expand possibilities understanding complex decisive within industries.
